ST. DAVID'S – The Wilkes University men's basketball team shot 28.8 percent from the field and was out-rebounded 41-32 as Eastern University took a 65-49 win in Freedom Conference action.
Every Wilkes player saw at least four minutes of action, while nine different people scored for the Colonels.
Chris DeRojas (Dallas/Bishop O'Reilly) led the way with 13 points and hit the team's only three-pointer.
Bernard Edmonds (Exeter/Wyoming Area) had the best game of his career as he was 4-of-5 from the field and was the only other player to score in double figures with 10 in nine minutes of action.
Wilkes led 19-12, its largest of the game, with 9:34 to go in the first half after DeRojas made the back end of a pair of free throws. The Eagles would tie the game at 21 with 4:35 when Alex Nelson, who scored 13 points on the night, made a layup.
Despite shooting just under 26 percent from the field in the first half, the Colonels only trailed 30-25 at the break. In the second half however, the Eagles used a 17-3 run to lead 51-33 with 9:59 to go in the game. During the run the Colonels missed seven-straight shots until
Cliff Richardson (Bernville, PA/Tulpehocken) made a layup with 12:16 to go. By that time, Eastern held a 47-33 lead.
The Eagles would lead by as many as 23 with under five minutes to go until Wilkes ended the game on an 8-1 run.
Wilkes will play its final game of the season this Saturday at 3 p.m. against King's College in the Marts Center where it will celebrate senior day.
