Chris DeRojas (Dallas/Bishop O'Reilly) entered into an elite club on Saturday, Jan. 23, scoring his 1,000th point on a three-pointer in the second half against Delaware Valley. The junior from Dallas, Pa. hit the long jumper with 10:18 left in the game en route to a 16 point effort in a crucial Freedom Conference contest for the Colonels.
DeRojas scored 355 points in his freshman campaign, averaging 14.2 points per contest for a Colonel squad that finished 13-12, 7-5 in conference play. The same year DeRojas connected on 62 three-point shots, and shot 81 percent from the free throw line.
In his second season DeRojas led Wilkes in the scoring column, scoring 429 points on the year and recording a 17.2 points per game average for a 15-11 Colonel team. That year he hit 63 threes and shot just under 89 percent from the charity stripe. His sophomore season was highlighted by a 37 point effort against Alvernia, hitting on 7-of-11 threes.
This year DeRojas currently has 276 points, and is averaging 13.1 points a night. He has hit on 37 three-point attempts, and scored 37 points earlier in the season against Lycoming College. He also leads the team in assists with 68, and is shooting just under 88 percent from the free throw line for a 13-8 Colonel team.
DeRojas has developed into an outside threat for Wilkes, and has played a crucial role on Colonel teams that haven't experienced a losing season over the past three years.
