Box Score
The Wilkes University baseball team headed up to Scranton on Tuesday to take on Marywood, defeating the Pacers with help from a four-run seventh inning, 7-5
Sean Flecknoe (Wilkes-Barre, PA/G.A.R.) was on the mound for the Colonels, who cruised through the first five innings with excellent pitching from both Flecknoe and
Zach Lazar (Berwick, Pa./Berwick Area). The Colonels scored first, as in the third inning Joe Drebitko and
Mike McAndrew (Avoca, Pa./Pittston Area) had singled themselves on, and
Matt Ruch (Dallas, Pa./Holy Redeemer ) slammed a three-run home run to left field, giving Wilkes a 3-0 lead.
In the sixth Wilkes ran into some trouble, as a couple of errors helped lead to five Marywood runs, only one of which was earned. Down 5-3, the Colonels struck back in the ensuing inning, loading the bases on multiple walks by showing patience at the plate. Soon after, a run was walked in, and a fielder's choice and groundout led to two more runs, giving Wilkes a 6-5 lead before
Rich Cosgrove (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Myers H.S.) singled, scoring one to push the lead to two runs.
Lazer and
Mike Brennan (New Ringold, Pa./Marian Catholic) then shut the door on the Pacers, not allowing any more runs as Wilkes picked up the victory, 7-5.
The Colonels were led by Ruch with two hits and three RBI's, while Lazar picked up the victory.
Wilkes will look to keep this momentum going as it prepares for three games against King's College this weekend. The first game will be at Artillery Park on Friday and begin at 3:30 p.m.
