A nine-run fifth inning of the first game propelled Wilkes University to a 13-5 win over host King's College, but the Monarchs shutout the Colonels in the second game 7-0 as the teams split a double header at Lipo Field.

The Colonel bats came alive in the opener as they banged out 15 hits including a solo home run in the top of the second by designated hitter Joel Watson (Honesdale, PA/Honesdale). He finished the game by going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two runs batted in. Carmen Lopresto (Pittston, PA/Pittston Area), Matt Ruch (Dallas, Pa./Holy Redeemer ), Angus Neary (Old Forge/Riverside) and Al Clocker (Swoyersville/Wyoming Valley West) also finished with multiple hit games as well. Clocker led all players with three RBI's in the opener.

Wilkes took the early lead in the first when Matt Ruch (Dallas, Pa./Holy Redeemer ) hit a two-out single before Neary hit a triple to plate Ruch for the first run of the game. The Colonels would add to their lead in the second thanks to Watson's leadoff homer and a Ruch single which scored Lopresto, who was hit by a pitch.

The Monarchs would keep the game close in the bottom of the third when they struck for three runs highlighted by a two-run triple by Brian Mikus scoring Matt Unger, who reached on a two-out double.

The top of the fifth saw the Colonels blow the game with nine runs on eight hits and sent 15 batters to the plate. Clocker came up big with one out as he hit a two-run single to left field plating Neary, who walked for the second time in the inning, and Ruch, who singled.

Starter Ryan Fetterman (Endicott, NY/Maine Endwell ) had an impressive outing as he tossed 5.1 innings where he gave up five runs, four of which were earned, on four hits while striking out two in his fourth win of the season. Brandon Carling (Old Forge, PA/Old Forge Area) threw the final 1.2 innings where he gave up two hits without a run.

In the second game, Monarch pitcher Dan Jenkins baffled the Colonel hitters as he gave up just four hits while striking out nine. Wilkes designated hitter Tom Plessl (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland ) had a double for the only extra-base hit for the Colonels.

With the split, Wilkes moved to 10-14 overall and 3-11 in Freedom Conference play. The two teams will play the third game of the series tomorrow at Artillery Park at 1 p.m.
