Game One
Game Two
The Wilkes University softball team hosted King's College to a double-header on Saturday, looking to get back on track and make a run for the conference playoffs. The Lady Colonels did just that, taking two games from the Monarchs by scores of 1-0 and 8-0 in five innings.
Lindsey Behrenshausen started the first game for Wilkes, and after giving up an early double retired the next three batters for a scoreless first. In the fourth, the Monarchs threatened again with a runner on third, but a lineout to right field ended the inning with the score still tied at zero.
Wilkes struck in the bottom of the fifth inning, as
Kristy Ordile (Bellmawr, N.J./Triton Regional) hit a solo home run deep to right center field, giving the Lady Colonels the first score of the game. The scored remained 1-0 going into the top of the seventh, with King's having one more shot to tie or take the lead. Behrenshausen had no trouble though, taking down the Monarchs in order and sealing the 1-0 victory.
Wilkes was led by Ordile who did all the offense with one swing, while Behrenshausen picked up the win, allowing no runs and four hits while striking out five batters.
In game two
Maureen Pelot (Kirkville, N.Y./Chittenango) started in the circle for Wilkes, who retired the first four batters she faced before walking a Monarch in the second inning.
In the third inning Wilkes exploded offensively, as a double by
Abbey Agresti (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin East) scored
Megan Mowery (Berwick/Berwick) from second, and another double by
Gina Stefanelli (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Meyers) scored Agresti, giving the Lady Colonels a 2-0 lead. In the fourth Wilkes struck again, as a double by
Amanda Holston (Frankford, DE/Sussex Central) scored
Alyssa Ciesla (Branchville, N.J./High Point) from second, and five more runs crossed the plate before the inning was over, giving the Lady Colonels a comfortable 8-0 lead.
King's had to score in the fifth to prolong the game, but Pelot shut down the Monarch in order to seal the 8-0 victory in five innings.
Wilkes was led by Agresti with two hits and three RBI's, while Mowery, Stefanelli and
Jackie Follweiler (Slatington/Northern Lehigh) each had two hits and an RBI in the contest. Pelot picked up the victory, giving up only one hit in the game.
Wilkes' next contest will be against Lebanon Valley on Thursday, April 22. That game will start at Ralston Field at 3:30 p.m.
