Box Score

The Wilkes University baseball team hosted cross-town rival King's on Sunday in the last of the three games the teams played over the weekend. After splitting the first two game at King's, the Monarchs took down the grudge match, winning 8-0.

Tom Buckler (Plains, Pa./Coughlin) got the start for the Colonels, and in the top of the first the Monarchs loaded the bases, but a double-play and a fly out only allowed one run to score, as King's grabbed an early lead. In the third King's added another run after loading the bases once again, pushing its lead to two.

In the fifth inning King's again had the bases loaded, and scored on a sacrifice fly to left, but that's all the Colonels surrendered, keeping the score close at 3-0. Monarch pitching kept Wilkes at bay throughout the game, as the Colonels were unable to advance a runner across home plate the entire contest. Meanwhile, King's added two more runs in the eighth and three more in the ninth, winning the game by a score of 8-0.

Buckler picked up the loss on the day, while only Trevin Jaggers, Matt Ruch (Dallas, Pa./Holy Redeemer ), and Carmen Lopresto (Pittston, PA/Pittston Area) had hits for Wilkes.

The Colonels will now travel to Newark, N.J. to take on Rutgers-Newark on Tuesday, April 20. That game will begin at 7:00 p.m.
