SCRANTON – The Wilkes University women's tennis team won its second-straight match with a 9-0 win over Scranton. Not only did the doubles teams cruise to victory, but the Lady Colonels won every singles match in straight-sets.
In doubles play
Victoria Bybel (Lancaster/Lancaster Mennonite) and
Melanie Nolt (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) gave Wilkes an early 1-0 lead after their 8-5 win at the top spot before
Michelle Knight (Roaming Shores, OH/Trinity) and
Xiaoqiao Zhang (Zhengzhou City, China/Warren Hills (N.J.)) took an 8-5 victory at the No. 3 spot.
Alexis Donner (Belmar, NJ/Wall) and Katrina Lynn completed the doubles sweep at the No. 2 position with an 8-6 win.
In singles play, Bybel put Wilkes up 4-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 3 position before Donner clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-1 win at the fourth spot. At the No. 1 position, Nolt won 6-3, 6-2, while Lynn won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 singles.
Zhang and
Rebekah Shanaman (Richland, PA/ELCO) also took straight-set wins at the fifth and sixth spot to complete the sweep. The Lady Colonels improved to 11-3 overall and will take on PSU Berks tomorrow where they will celebrate senior day.
