The Wilkes University women's lacrosse team hosted Misericordia on Saturday, on a day in which seniors
Erica Sundberg (Mullica Hill, N.J./Kingsway HS) and
Amanda Tilley (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) were acknowledged for their service for Wilkes. The Lady Colonels then fell to the Cougars, who scored a goal with 11 seconds left to take the game, 14-13.
Wilkes came out firing in the contest, as
Erica Sundberg (Mullica Hill, N.J./Kingsway HS) scored less than a minute and a half into the game, giving Wilkes an early lead. The Cougars then scored two quick goals, but a free-position score by Tilley tied the contest up at two a piece.
Misericordia scored another goal in the middle of the period, but
Amelia Farnham (Guilford, CN/Guilford HS) drove in the 11th minute to once again tie the contest. Soon after, Sundberg added her second score of the game, giving the Lady Colonels the lead. With 8:25 left in the period Tilley once again found the back of the next, extending the Lady Colonels lead to two.
To close out the period the Cougars added two scores while Sundberg added another goal, making the scored 6-5 in favor of Wilkes at the break.
Less than three minutes into the period the Cougars tied up the contest and
Stephanie Harkins (Larksville, Pa./Holy Redeemer) answered soon after with a goal of her own. Sundberg then scored again, followed by a goal by
Carissa Clark (Petersburg, N.J./Ocean City), making the score 9-6 and forcing a Misericordia time out.
The Cougars worked their way back into the game over the next 20 minutes, eventually taking the lead before Farnham tied the contest at 13. With 11 seconds left Cougar Danielle Gross picked up a ricocheted shot and scored for Misericorida, giving it a 14-13 advantage and not enough time for Wilkes to respond.
Sundberg had five goals in the contest for Wilkes, while Farnham added three.
Cassie Cronin (Manchester, NH/Manchester Memorial) had 20 saves in the game as well, as Wilkes was out-shot 42-30.
The next contest for the Lady Colonels will be on Monday, April 26 at Elizabethtown. That game will begin at 4:00 p.m.
