The Wilkes University women's lacrosse team hosted Lancaster Bible on Tuesday, and after an exciting last few minutes won 14-13 on a late goal by Erica Sundberg (Mullica Hill, N.J./Kingsway HS).

The Lady Colonels were the first to strike in the contest, as Carissa Clark (Petersburg, N.J./Ocean City) converted on a free position goal four minutes into the game. Five minutes later Lindsey Davenport (Dallas, PA/Dallas) found the back of the net, followed up by an Amelia Farnham (Guilford, CN/Guilford HS) goal, giving Wilkes an early 3-0 advantage.

The Chargers answered with 17 minutes left, scoring two back-to-back goals to narrow the deficit to one. Farnham answered for Wilkes, cushioning the Lady Colonel lead once again before another score from Lancaster Bible made the score 4-3.

The Chargers turned up the heat at the period progressed, taking a 6-4 lead before a Stephanie Harkins (Larksville, Pa./Holy Redeemer) goal brought the deficit to one. Lancaster Bible added one more score before the break, making the score 7-5 at the half.

In the second period the two teams exchanged goals early, and halfway through the Chargers held onto an 11-8 lead. With 8:22 left to play, Davenport scored her second goal of the game, pulling Wilkes to within one. Soon after, a goal by Harkins tied the gaem up at 11. With 5:58 left, Erica Sundberg (Mullica Hill, N.J./Kingsway HS) scored on a rebound, giving Wilkes the lead. With the score 13-12, Lancaster Bible score a goal with less than a minute left, but Erica Sundberg (Mullica Hill, N.J./Kingsway HS) was fouled and award free position, where she converted the game-winning score with 17 seconds left.

Sundberg had four goals in the contest and Farnham had three, while Cassie Cronin (Manchester, NH/Manchester Memorial) recorded 21 saves.

The Lady Colonels will be back in action on Saturday, May 1 at King's College. That contest will begin at 1:00 p.m.
