ANNVILLE – The Wilkes University women's tennis team picked up its 13th win of the season by besting Lebanon Valley 8-1 in a non-conference matchup.
In doubles play,
Rebekah Shanaman (Richland, PA/ELCO) and
Michelle Knight (Roaming Shores, OH/Trinity) put Wilkes on the board first with an 8-4 win at the No. 3 spot before Katrina Lynn and
Alexis Donner (Belmar, NJ/Wall) made it 2-0 with their 8-2 win at the No. 2 position.
Melanie Nolt (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) and
Victoria Bybel (Lancaster/Lancaster Mennonite) completed the doubles sweep with their 9-7 win at the top spot.
The momentum stayed on the Lady Colonels side in singles play as Lynn gave Wilkes a 4-0 advantage with a 6-1, 6-1 straight set win at the No. 2 position. Knight clinched the match at the No. 6 spot with a 6-0, 6-3 win before Bybel won her match 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 3 position.
Shanaman and Nolt were the last to win their matches at the No. 5 and 1 spots respectively. The Lady Colonels will now face Manhattanville in the opening round of the Freedom Conference Team Championship on Tuesday, May 4 on the Ralston Courts.
