The Wilkes University Colonels scored four runs in the top of the eighth inning to 8-7, but Delaware Valley roared back to score four runs in the bottom of the frame to eventually take an 11-9 win over the Colonels.
Sophomore
Matt Ruch (Dallas, Pa./Holy Redeemer ) was a force at the plate for the Colonels, going 4-for-6 with a two-run homer and a double, while
Randy Dengler (Ashland, Pa./Tri-Valley ) hit a clutch three-run double to put the Colonels up for the first time in the game in the top of the eighth inning.
Mike McAndrew (Avoca, Pa./Pittston Area) picked up two hits as well and scored two times for Wilkes.
Wilkes jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first before The Aggies took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the inning. They would add to their lead with two more runs in the second before Wilkes closed the gap to 5-4 with four runs in the top of the third. Delaware Valley made it 7-4 in the seventh before the Colonels erupted for four runs in the eighth.
Ryan Fetterman (Endicott, NY/Maine Endwell ) pitched four shut-out innings for the Colonels and struck out four while walking two but suffered the loss.
The Colonels will close out their season tomorrow when they host Delaware Valley for a double header starting at 1 p.m. at Artillery Park.
