LADY COLONELS FALL IN SECOND ROUND TO No.5 DENISON, END RECORD-SETTING YEAR

Results

The Wilkes University women's tennis team advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament upon defeating SUNY Geneseo on Thursday, but fell to #5 Denison on Friday in straight sets, 5-0.

In doubles action, Wilkes was only able to win one game which came in the number one match, as Melanie Nolt (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) and Victoria Bybel (Lancaster/Lancaster Mennonite) fell to Marta Drane and Kristen Cobb, 8-1. The other two doubles matches ended 8-0 in favor of Denison.

In singles play Denison only needed two more victories to seal the win, which it did in the first two games. Cobb defeated Katrina Lynn and Erin Chadwell beat Alexis Donner (Belmar, NJ/Wall) in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.

Wilkes ends its season with a 16-5 (6-0) record, and recorded its first NCAA Tournament victory in the history of the program. The Lady Colonels had one of their best performances in school history, recording 16 wins which is third all-time, and going undefeated (9-0) in home matches.
