Steve Finkernagel WILKES MEN’S SOCCER POSTS 4-3 FREEDOM WIN AT DVC 10/22/2011 7:20:00 PM (Box Score) WILKES MEN'S SOCCER POSTS 4-3 FREEDOM WIN AT DVC DOYLESTOWN – Ed Zulkoski (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) and Eric McAnena (Horsham, PA/Abington) scored one goal and one assist each to lead visiting Wilkes University to a 4-3 Freedom Conference victory over Delaware Valley College Saturday afternoon in men's soccer action. With the win the Colonels improve to 6-9 overall and 2-4 in league play. DVC drops to 4-11 overall and 0-5 in conference matches. Michael Turner (Hudson, PA/Coughlin) put the Colonels up early just 3:20 into the contest when he took a pass from Zulkoski and found the back of the net. Tyler Young (Chambersburg, PA/Chambersburg) added to the lead notching his second tally of the season off an assist from McAnena at 15:48 as Wilkes took a 2-0 lead. After the Aggies cut the deficit in half prior to the half, Zulkoski extended the lead back to 3-1 at 47:19 of the second frame on an unassisted strike. McAnena finished off the Colonels scoring tear with a goal at 74:40 thanks to a Joe Brennan (Oakdale, CT/Montville) assist to keep DVC at bay. The Aggies scored two minutes later at 76:36 to get to within one at 4-3, but the Wilkes defense tightened and held off a late Aggie rally to escape with the Freedom victory. Wilkes held a 17-15 shot advantage while garnering eight corner kicks to DVC's two attempts. Patrick Loube (Boyertown, PA/Boyertown) made four stops in net to record the win for Wilkes. DJ Meisinger and Chris Staffer split time in net for DVC combining for seven saves. Wilkes will return to the pitch Wednesday when they travel to Williamsport, Pa. to face Lycoming College in a non-conference tilt scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Print Friendly Version
