WILKES CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS COMPETE AT MAC CHAMPIONSHIPS AT MESSIAH COLLEGE

GRANTHAM, PA --The Wilkes University cross country teams competed in the 2011 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championships on Saturday, as the men finished eighth out of 14 teams and the women came in 10th out of 13 teams at Messiah College.

In the 8k men's race with 129 total runners, Tim Jurkowski (Honesdale, PA/Honesdale) led the way finishing 46th at 30:15. Tyler Layton (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) placed 66th with a time of 31:19 and Austin Loukas (Windham, Maine/Windham) ran a time of 31:46 placing 72nd for the Colonels.

In the 6k women's race with 122 total runners, Michelle Wakeley (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott) led the way finishing 4th at 24:54 picking up First Team All-Conference honors along with way. Becky Gordon (Middlebury, CT/Pomperaug) finished 64th at 28:34 and Christine Klingel (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley) completed the race with a time of 30:45 placing 92nd. Samantha Wood (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) crossed in 175th at 31:11 for the Lady Colonels.

Wilkes will run on Saturay, Novemember 12 when it competes at the NCAA Division III Regionals held at Center Valley, PA.
