WILKES CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS COMPETE AT NCAA REGIONALS

CENTER VALLEY, PA -- The Wilkes University men's and women's cross country teams competed in the NCAA Division III Mideast Regionals Saturday at DeSales University in Center Valley, Pa. The Colonel men ran an 8k course finishing 38th of 47 teams while the Lady Colonels ran a 6k course taking 41st of 47 squads.

Michelle Wakeley (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott) crossed the finished line in a time of 24:16, good for 42nd overall out of 335 total runners. It marked the fourth fastest time in school history. Samantha Wood (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) completed the race with a time of 28:22, a season best, in 248th place while Becky Gordon (Middlebury, CT/Pomperaug) finished at a season-best 28:45 (258). Also on the women's side were Christine Klingel (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley) and Sarah Fillman (Limerick, PA/Spring Ford) who both posted season-best times crossing the finish line with times of 29:42 and 30:01, respectively.

On the men's side, Tim Jurkowski (Honesdale, PA/Honesdale) posted a school-record time of 29:02 for 169th overall out of 328 total runners. Dan Lykens followed behind with a time of 29:54 (219), the fifth fastest time in school history. The third finisher for the Colonels was Tyler Layton (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) coming in with a season-best time of 30:37 and Austin Loukas (Windham, Maine/Windham) was not far behind with a time of 30:49 (252). Matt Buono, Tim Fisher, and RJ Sperazza, all with season best times, rounded out the runners for the men who crossing the finish line at 31:11, 32:18, and 32:42, respectively.

With this meet, both Wilkes' squads finish up their 2011 seasons.
