HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC – Wilkes University continued its success on Hilton Head Island as the men's tennis team won two on Friday and the women's squad took another as the Colonels and Lady Colonels faced off against Regis College and Shepherd University.
In an early morning matchup with Regis, the men easily handled the Pride, winning 9-0. The Colonels then went on to beat Shepherd in the afternoon by a 6-3 count, as winning all three doubles matchups was key to defeating the Rams.
Clarke Freeman, Alex Makos and Brandon Helfrich each posted two wins in singles action for Wilkes while Wes McCollum and Freeman paired for two victories at No. 1 doubles during the day.
The Lady Colonels also cruised in their victory, beating Shepherd 8-1 in the afternoon.
Ally Kristofco (Hollidaysburg, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) chalked up another win at No. 1 singles and paired with
Alexis Donner (Belmar, NJ/Wall) for a win at No. 1 doubles. The women also took all three doubles matches in their last contest of the southern trip.
Both teams are back in action next Saturday as they travel to take on Elizabethtown College next Saturday.
