IMMACULATA – Angus Neary (Old Forge/Riverside) went a combined 5-for-7 with two doubles, a homerun and five runs batted in to lead Wilkes University to a doubleheader sweep of Immaculata University, winning 8-3 and 4-3 on Sunday afternoon at Immaculata Stadium.

Ryan Fetterman (Endicott, NY/Maine Endwell ) led the way in the opener for the Colonels, getting the start on the mound and tossing a complete game with five strikeouts, giving up seven hits and three earned runs.

Neary got the scoring going in the top of the first when, after a double, he scored from second when Tay Sidler (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville Area) reached on an error.

Down 2-1 heading into the fourth, Neary got things started again, walking to lead off the inning, then advancing to third on a single by Sidler. He'd later score after back-to-back walks, before Tyler Marino (Wilkes-Barre, PA/Meyers)'s double drove in two more. Scott Skammer (Dallas, PA/Dallas) then followed Marino's double with one of his own, clearing the bases as the Colonels scored five in the inning to take a 6-2 lead.

Neary then belted a homer to lead off the next inning, while a groundout by Marino brought in Al Clocker (Swoyersville/Wyoming Valley West) as the Colonels tacked on two insurance runs in the fifth before going on to the five-run win.

In game two, Neary again started the scoring in the opening inning, bringing Matt Ruch (Dallas, PA/Holy Redeemer) around on a double as the Colonels again took an early 1-0 lead.

The Mighty Macs then took the lead in their half of the third, getting a two-run double off of Wilkes starter Sean Flecknoe (Wilkes-Barre, PA/G.A.R.).

The Colonels took the lead back in the fifth when, after Sidler was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Neary stepped up to the plate and cleared them all with another double, taking a 4-2 advantage.

Immaculata threatened in the bottom half, leading off with a triple and getting another runner on with a walk off of reliever Mark Siebel (Rumson, NJ/Rumson Fair Haven). Runners at the corners led to a double steal, as the Mighty Macs closed their gap to 4-3.

Siebel then worked his way out of the jam, getting the next batter to fly out to Rich Cosgrove (Wilkes-Barre/Meyers) in center, who then got it to Joe Dantas (Reading, PA/Fleetwood) at second, picking off the runner and getting the Colonels out of the inning.

In the seventh, Immaculata got a runner to second with two outs before Siebel got a ground out to preserve the Wilkes victory.

Flecknoe picked up the win as he combined with Siebel to strike out five and give up three earned runs on eight hits, walking five more. Aside from Neary's three hits, Ruch and Clocker picked up a hit apiece for the Colonels in game two.

The wins evened the Colonels record at 4-4 on the season as they prepare for their home opener on Wednesday, welcoming Marywood University to Artillery Park. The first pitch for the single game is set for 3:00 p.m.
