MYRTLE BEACH, SC – Angus Neary (Old Forge/Riverside) had a game-winning hit against Johnson and Wales, but the Colonels couldn't pick up two victories on the day, defeating Johnson and Wales 8-7 in nine innings, and falling to Ohio Northern 3-1 in Myrtle Beach on Friday.

In the first game against Johnson and Wales, Wilkes was able to pick up an 8-7 victory on an Angus Neary (Old Forge/Riverside) double in the bottom of the ninth, scoring Tay Sidler (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville Area) who had walked before Neary. Sean Flecknoe (Wilkes-Barre, PA/G.A.R.) picked up the win in relief for the Colonels, while Matt Ruch (Dallas, PA/Holy Redeemer) drove in four runners and Rich Cosgrove (Wilkes-Barre/Meyers) had a two-run triple in the seventh inning to support Wilkes offensively.

In game number two Wilkes took on Ohio Northern as it looked to pick up two early season victories. Ohio Northern scored three runs in the middle innings and sustained that lead until the top of the seventh inning. In the seventh frame, Wilkes had two runners on with two outs before Scott Skammer (Dallas, PA/Dallas) drove in Al Clocker (Swoyersville/Wyoming Valley West) to make the score 3-1.

Wilkes was unable to put together any more runs after that, ultimately falling to Ohio Northern, 3-1. The Colonels had 12 hits in the game, compared to Ohio Northern's seven.

The Colonels will take on Allegheny and PSU-Abington tomorrow, Mar. 5. The game against Allegheny starts at 10:00 a.m., while the contest against PSU-Abington will begin at 1:00 p.m.
