MYRTLE BEACH, SC – Wilkes University dropped each of its baseball games in Myrtle Beach today as the Colonels lost to Allegheny College 9-4 in the opener before falling to Penn State Abington 4-0 in the afternoon.
In the morning game against Allegheny,
Zach Lazar (Berwick, PA/Berwick Area) started and went 5.1 innings, striking out four while giving up 10 hits and nine runs. Matt Ruck drove in two of the Colonels four runs, going 1-for-3 on the day, while
Tay Sidler (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville Area) had an RBI double in the loss.
Wilkes was no-hit by the Nittany Lions in the second game as freshman Matt McCallister pitched a fantastic game for Abington.
Al Clocker (Swoyersville/Wyoming Valley West) got the start for the Colonels, going five innings and giving up four runs on seven hits, striking out two.
Joe Harvey (Clifford Twp., PA/Mountain View) came on in relief, pitching well and fanning five while not allowing a run.
The Colonels finish up their trip to South Carolina tomorrow with a double-header against Penn State Berks. Action is set to get underway at 3:00 p.m.
