Game One Box / Game Two Box
MYRTLE BEACH, SC – Wilkes University split a doubleheader with Penn State Berks on Sunday, winning 7-4 in the first game before falling 12-11 in eight innings in game two. The start was postponed because of rain in South Carolina and game two was delayed several times due to the wet weather.
Sean Flecknoe (Wilkes-Barre, PA/G.A.R.) started the opening game, striking out five and walking one in 4.1 innings of work, but Brandon Michael (Berwick, PA/Berwick Area), following in relief, picked up the win after throwing 1.2 innings. Mark Siebel (Rumson, NJ/Rumson Fair Haven) got the save, throwing a scoreless seventh inning.
Al Clocker (Swoyersville/Wyoming Valley West) finished with a hit and two RBI while Matt Ruch (Dallas, PA/Holy Redeemer) and Tyler Marino (Wilkes-Barre, PA/Meyers) collected two hits and an RBI apiece.
Ruch kept it going in game two, getting two hits and two RBI while Carmen Lopresto (Pittston, PA/Pittston Area) collected three hits and crossed the plate four times.
Angus Neary (Old Forge/Riverside) had an RBI single and knocked in two more on sacrifice flies, but picked up the loss in relief, giving up the tying run in the seventh and the winning run in the extra inning.
The Colonels finished their season opening trip to Myrtle Beach with a 2-4 record and will take the field again next weekend with a trip to Immaculata University on Saturday before their scheduled home opener on Sunday against Marywood University at Artillery Park.
