FERRUM, VA – Keri Meerholz (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) scored two goals and added an assist for the Lady Colonels but Wilkes University fell in its 2011 women's lacrosse season opener, losing at Ferrum College 18-4 on Monday evening.

Meerholz got the Lady Colonels on the board at the 13:02 mark of the first half, however Wilkes found itself down 7-1 at that point.

After two more Ferrum goals, Lindsey Davenport (Dallas, PA/Dallas) got her first goal of the season, exactly five minutes after Meerholz scored the first. Two more Panthers goals before half made it 11-2 at the break.

Wilkes got two more scores in the second half, as Meerholz dropped in an unassisted goal at 26:38 and got the assist on another Davenport goal with 15:55 left in the game.

Cassie Cronin (Manchester, NH/Manchester Memorial) started in the net for the Lady Colonels, getting four saves in 31:51 of work.

The Lady Colonels are back in action on Thursday when they play Hollins University in Roanoke, VA. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
