Melanie Nolt (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) was one of three Lady Colonels with a pair of victories as nine players in all contributed, as Wilkes University stayed unbeaten in the Freedom Conference with a 9-0 shutout of Eastern University in a women's tennis matchup on Friday afternoon at the Ralston Athletic Complex.
Through four Freedom Conference matches, the Lady Colonels have not surrendered a single point to an opponent, getting 9-0 shutouts in each match.
Nolt got the best of high school teammate Bekhah Roland twice, defeating her at first singles 7-5, 6-2 and pairing with
Victoria Bybel (Lancaster/Lancaster Mennonite) to get an 8-2 No. 1 doubles victory over the Eagles Allison Verdic and Roland.
Also getting doubles wins for the Lady Colonels were
Katie Lynn (Berwick, PA/Berwick) and
Anna Mitchell (Montclair, NJ/Montclair), who defeated Jacquelyn Sauder and Amanda Prescott 8-1 at two and
Michelle Knight (Roaming Shores, OH/Trinity) and
Amanda Holyk (Scranton, PA/Scranton Prep) who breezed by Kim Kirk and Elaine Grazulis 8-1 at No. 3.
Wilkes had its way with the Eagles in singles play, as Nolt and Roland's matchup was the closest of the day.
Lynn and
Ally Kristofco (Hollidaysburg, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) each had 6-0, 6-2 wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively. Bybel won at four 6-1, 6-2, while
Alexis Donner (Belmar, NJ/Wall) and
Rebekah Shanaman (Richland, PA/ELCO) blanked their opponents at five and six, 6-0, 6-0.
Wilkes (10-1, 4-0) returns to the court on Monday, hosting the University of Scranton at the Ralston Athletic Complex courts. Match time is set for 3:30 p.m.
