READING – The Crusaders scored 13 first-half goals and Wilkes only had 10 total shots in a 16-3 loss to Alvernia in Reading on Saturday. The loss moves the Lady Colonels to 2-4, 0-3 on the season.
Wilkes scored the first goal of the game when
Lindsey Davenport (Dallas, PA/Dallas) found
Gabby Ford (Elmont, NY/Sewanhaka) for her 18th score of the season. The Crusaders then went on a seven-goal frenzy to take a 7-1 lead before
Keri Meerholz (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) scored unassisted with 13 minutes to play in the half.
Alvernia finished the period with six more scores, extending its lead to 13-2 at the break. The Crusaders added on three more goals early in the second period to cushion their lead, and with 3:31 left in the contest Meerholz scored again to make the final count, 16-3.
Meerholz finished with two scores on the day while Ford added one, with Davenport passing out a lone assist for Wilkes.
Justine Thimmel (Pompton Plains, NJ/Pequannock) got the start in goal, saving 14 shots.
The Lady Colonels will now head to Scranton to take on Marywood University on Sunday, April 3. That game will begin at 2:00 p.m.
