WILKES-BARRE – Wilkes University is set to host rival King's College in the semifinals of the 2011 Freedom Conference Men's Tennis Tournament on Tuesday, April 26 at 3:30 p.m. at the Ralston Athletic Complex courts. The Colonels are vying for their fourth straight title, which would place them in the NCAA tournament for the fourth year in a row.

The Colonels enter postseason play after going 9-3 in duals this spring, including an undefeated 5-0 mark in the conference. Wilkes allowed just three points in Freedom action all season, the most impressive win being an 8-1 victory over rival and No. 2 seed Manhattanville College back on April 14.

In singles play, Jeremy Nolt (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) will compete at the No. 1 spot after going 3-2 there this spring. He has a 7-7 overall record during the 2010-11 season, including a 2-1 mark in conference play, and advanced to the semifinals of the Middle Atlantic Conference individual championships in the fall.

Nolt will be followed by Evan Katz (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) at No. 2, who boasts a 3-1 record at that spot this spring. Katz also advanced to the semifinals of the individual tournament in the fall, and continued that success over winter break to finish with a 5-2 overall record in 2011. Katz was named Freedom Conference player of the week back on April 11, one of three Colonels to receive the award this season.

Wes McCollum (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin) will line up at third singles, where he is 3-0 this spring. McCollum, who was named player of the week on April 18, leads the Colonels in wins this spring, putting together a 9-3 mark, including 5-0 in the conference. He's played at each of the top three spots in singles play, going 3-2 at No. 1 and 3-1 at No. 2.

Dakkota Deem (Montgomery, PA/Montgomery), the MAC's champion at No. 4 singles in the fall, will be in that spot for the Colonels this week. He went undefeated in conference play, going 5-0 playing at the fourth and fifth spots. Deem is 11-9 overall this year, going 7-5 in the spring and 4-1 at No. 4.

Going for the Colonels at No. 5 will be Clarke Freeman (York, PA/Central York), who won the individual championship at that spot in the fall. Freeman has seen most of his action at No. 3 this spring, going 6-2, and is 6-5 in duals and 3-1 in Freedom play.

Alex Makos (Mansfield, PA/Mansfield) rounds out the Colonels singles lineup at the sixth spot, where he won the individual title in the fall. Makos, who is 14-9 overall this year and 7-4 in duals, has seen most of his action this spring at the fourth and fifth spots. He's a combined 5-3 there, while going 2-1 this spring at No. 6.

On the doubles side, Katz and McCollum will pair at No. 1 where they are 7-1 in duals this spring. They went 5-0 in the conference with their only loss being to a team from Division II Bloomsburg University.

Nolt and Deem will follow at second doubles. They went 5-0 together this spring, including a 3-0 mark in the conference.

Freeman and Makos will go for the Colonels in the third doubles spot this week. They've gone 8-2 together this year, including a 6-2 spring mark. They've played every spot in dual action as well, going 1-0 at No. 1, 2-1 at No. 2 and 3-1 at No. 3. They also went undefeated at 4-0 in conference play.

Tim Carroll will line up for King's at the No. 1 spot. He's 6-9 this spring, all at the top spot, and is 2-3 in conference play. Tony Bevevino will play for the Monarchs at No. 2, where he's gone 4-7 in duals this year. King's No. 3 spot will be held by Mike Steinberger, who finished with a 3-7 mark at that spot this spring.

Rounding out the rest of the Monarchs lineup at singles will be Nick Conte at No. 4, Jake Rohring at No. 5 and Chris DiMino at No. 6.

Bevivino and Steinberger will pair at first doubles for the Monarchs, while Carroll and Rohring will play at two and Conte and DiMino will play at three.

The Colonels defeated King's back on April 2, winning 8-1 at the Kirby Park courts. Wilkes took all three doubles wins to open the match, and won the first five spots in singles play.

The winner of Tuesday's matchup will square off against the winner of Manhattanville and third-seeded Eastern University on Saturday.
