Box Score

WILKES-BARRE – Carmen Lopresto (Pittston, PA/Pittston Area) hit a walk-off solo homerun in the bottom of the ninth with two outs to propel the Colonels over Delaware Valley in a crucial Freedom Conference matchup at Artillery Park. The homerun gave Wilkes a 5-4 victory and kept it in the playoff hunt.

The game began with Wilkes taking a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Matt Ruch (Dallas, PA/Holy Redeemer) blasted a shot over the left-center field fence. Delaware Valley answered in the top of the third inning, manufacturing two runs of its own to tie up the contest.

Wilkes retook the lead in the bottom of the frame on another RBI by Ruch, and in the fifth inning each team added a run to make the score 4-3 in favor of Wilkes. The Aggies had the bases loaded in the sixth inning, but were only able to score one, tying the score for the late innings.

In the top of the ninth Wilkes took care of the Aggies in order, and in the bottom of the frame the first two Colonel batters were retired, bringing Lopresto to the plate. The sophomore then slapped a long fly ball to left field, sending it over the fence and securing the win for the Colonels.

Lopresto finished 2-for-4 at the plate and scored four of the Colonels' five runs. Ruch was 2-for-3 with three RBI's, while Tyler Marino (Wilkes-Barre, PA/Meyers) collected two hits. Mark Siebel (Rumson, NJ/Rumson Fair Haven) ended up with the win for Wilkes, pitching two innings and surrendering just one hit.

The Colonels will be back in action when they host Scranton on Wednesday, April 27. That game will begin at 3:30 p.m.
