LADY COLONELS SECOND HALF SCORING BARRAGE NOT ENOUGH

4/26/2011 7:07:49 PM

Box Score

DALLAS – Gabby Ford (Elmont, NY/Sewanhaka) scored six goals and Allie Grippo (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) scored a season-high four times while the Lady Colonels went for 15 in the second half alone but it wasn't enough as Wilkes University fell to Misericordia University 22-17 in a Middle Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse matchup on Tuesday afternoon in Dallas.

The first half was no indication on how this game would end up with the Cougars taking a 6-2 lead into the break.

Misericordia would go up 8-2 with back-to-back goals to open the second. Ford then got her third of the game at the 28:48 mark to bring the Lady Colonels back to within five.

After two more Cougars goals, Ford and Keri Meerholz (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) scored two less than a minute apart to keep the deficit the same.

It would seem as though both teams were just trading goals back-and-forth throughout the second half, as Misericordia was able to take a 15-6 lead before the Lady Colonels battled back.

Misericordia's Sydnie Battle scored with 11:11 left to put the Cougars up 19-10 before Wilkes made one last run.

Ford scored at the 10:32 mark, before Meerholz and Grippo added their own goals within the next two minutes. After two more Misericordia scores, Wilkes outscored the Cougars 4-1 over the final 4:34 but it was too little too late.

Grippo also finished with a season-high seven draw controls, along with two ground balls. Meerholz finished with five goals and three draw controls while Ford's six goals came on just eight shots. Olivia Dworak (Dupont, PA/Wyoming Seminary) and Lindsey Davenport (Dallas, PA/Dallas) each added a goal for the Lady Colonels.

Cassie Cronin (Manchester, NH/Manchester Memorial) started and went the entire way in the net for Wilkes, saving 16 shots.

The Lady Colonels wrap up their season on Saturday as they host Elizabethtown College at the Ralston Athletic Complex. The opening draw is set for 1:00 p.m.
