Box Score

WILKES-BARRE – Wilkes gave up 17 hits and 12 runs, including 11 runs in the last four innings to fall to Scranton at Artillery Park on Wednesday, 12-6. The loss moves Wilkes to 16-14 on the season.

Wilkes started off the game on the right foot, taking advantage of a couple of Royal errors in the second inning to take a 2-1 lead. In the fifth inning the Colonels tacked on another score when Carmen Lopresto (Pittston, PA/Pittston Area) singled in A.J. Mihaly (Berwick, PA/Berwick Area), pushing the lead to two runs.

The game took a drastic turn for the worst in the top of the sixth, as the Royals scored three runs on three hits and capitalized on a Colonel error to take the lead. They then added four more scores in the seventh frame, giving them a five run lead. Wilkes answered with three runs in the seventh, but couldn't muster the offense necessary to work itself back into the game, ultimately falling 12-6.

Lopresto was the only Colonel with multiple hits, going 2-for-3 with two RBI's. Tay Sidler (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville Area) was the only other Colonel to drive in a run on the day. Wilkes had eight different pitchers appear in the contest.

The Colonels will continue their hunt for the postseason when they host Manhattanville on Friday, April 29. That game will begin at 3:30 p.m., and is also senior day.
