SCRANTON –
Keri Meerholz (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) scored five goals and added an assist but Marywood University scored 12 first half goals and was too much for the Lady Colonels as Wilkes University lost to the Pacers 21-9 in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Sunday afternoon.
Marywood (7-2) got the first two goals of the game, scoring just 11 seconds apart. Meerholz picked up her first goal of the game at the 23:58 mark as the Lady Colonels cut their deficit to one.
Two more Marywood goals gave the Pacers a 4-1 lead with 18:43 left in the first half before
Gabby Ford (Elmont, NY/Sewanhaka) took advantage of a free position shot, getting one past the goalie for Wilkes second goal.
The two teams traded goals before the Pacers scored seven of the final eight goals of the first half, with
Allie Grippo (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) getting one past the goalie at the 13-minute mark.
The Pacers picked up where they left off in the second half, scoring eight of the first nine goals to put the game away. Wilkes did score four goals in the last 9:06, getting two apiece from Meerholz and
Lindsey Davenport (Dallas, PA/Dallas).
This was the third time Meerholz scored at least five goals, including the second in the last three games.
Justine Thimmel (Pompton Plains, NJ/Pequannock) got the start in the net for Wilkes, splitting time with
Cassie Cronin (Manchester, NH/Manchester Memorial), as each stopped five shots.
After back-to-back road game, the Lady Colonels (2-5) return home to host Middle Atlantic Conference opponents Widener University on Wednesday and Lebanon Valley College on Friday.
