LADY COLONELS END THEIR SEASON WITH LOSS TO No. 17 ELIZABETHTOWN

WILKES-BARRE – The Lady Colonels got a goal each from freshmen Gabby Ford (Elmont, NY/Sewanhaka) and Keri Meerholz (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) as Wilkes University dropped its final game of the season, 16-2 to 17th-ranked Elizabethtown College in a Middle Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse matchup on Saturday afternoon at the Ralston Athletic Complex.

The Blue Jays (15-3, 11-1) got on the board first with a goal from Emily Butler less than six minutes in. Elizabethtown then went on to score the next three goals, taking a 4-0 lead at the 18:51 mark of the first half.

Meerholz stopped the Blue Jays run with a goal at 18:17, coming off of a free position shot.

Elizabethtown then went on another run, scoring 10 straight, including seven to close out the first half.

Ford got the Lady Colonels other goal, scoring off of a free position with 10:58 remaining.

Cassie Cronin (Manchester, NH/Manchester Memorial) went the entire 60 minutes in goal for the Lady Colonels, saving nine shots.

The Lady Colonels close their season with a 3-14 overall record, going 0-12 in MAC play. Meerholz and Ford were the main offensive weapons in their first season at Wilkes, as Meerholz led the team with 49 goals and 61 points while Ford dropped 43 goals and had 55 points. Both tied for the team lead with 12 assists apiece.

Junior Lindsey Davenport (Dallas, PA/Dallas) was third on the team in scoring with 17 goals and three assists for 20 points while two more freshmen, Allie Grippo (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) and Olivia Dworak (Dupont, PA/Wyoming Seminary), finished with 15 goals and 10 goals, respectively.

Freshman Justine Thimmel (Pompton Plains, NJ/Pequannock) saw most of the action in the net for the Lady Colonels, logging over 500 minutes in 14 games played, saving a team-high 81 shots. Cronin played 465 minutes in 12 games, saving 78 shots. Earlier this season she broke the school's all-time career saves mark of 384 and heads into her junior year with 422.

A young team with no seniors, the Lady Colonels hope to return all 14 players from this year's roster.
