WILKES-BARRE – Amanda Holston (Frankford, DE/Sussex Central) had the game-winning hit in game two against Marywood on Sunday, helping the Lady Colonels split against the Pacers at the Ralston Athletic Complex, falling 6-2 in game one and winning the second 3-2.

In game number one Wilkes started off down the right path, scoring in the bottom of the first inning when Jackie Follweiler (Slatington/Northern Lehigh) knocked in Jordan Borger (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley) to give the Lady Colonels an early lead. The middle innings weren't as kind to the Lady Colonels, particularly defensively, as Marywood took advantage of a crucial error in the fourth inning to score three runs and take the lead.

In the fifth and sixth innings the Pacers would tack on three more runs, once against taking advantage of two Wilkes errors to produce runs. In the bottom of the seventh Marywood returned the favor by committing two errors of their own, but Wilkes could only produce a single run, ultimately falling 6-2.

Lindsay Behrenshausen (Mt. Holly Springs/Boiling Springs) got the start in the game, surrendering nine hits and three earned runs while striking out four batters. Borger and Follweiler each had multiple hits for Wilkes, while Follweiler recording the only RBI in the game.

Game number two was a different story for Wilkes, as they Lady Colonels did not commit an error in the contest and relied on timely hitting to grab the victory.

In the third inning Marywood manufactured two runs on two hits, taking an early lead. It didn't last long though, for in the bottom of the frame Wilkes answered in the form of a deep homerun over the left-center field fence by Alysha Bixler (Williamstown, PA/Williams Valley), tying the contest at two.

Bixler also had the start, and over the next four innings pitched masterfully, holding Marywood to one hit over that period of time. Meanwhile, in the bottom of the sixth Bixler got on base via a walk, and stole second to get in scoring position with one out. With two outs Holston approached the plate and singled to left field, scoring Bixler and giving Wilkes the lead.

In the top of the seventh the Pacers started things off with a lead-off double, but Bixler was able to shut down the rest of the Marywood batters, grabbing the 3-2 victory.

Bixler finished with seven innings pitched while giving up just four hits and two earned runs. She also was one-for-one at the plate with the two-run homerun, and scored the winning run. Holston had the game-winning hit in her last game in a Wilkes uniform, and with Kait Brown (Utica, NY/Thomas R. Proctor) was the only Lady Colonels with multiple hits.

Borger led the Lady Colonels at the plate this season with a team-high .384 average, also leading the squad with 33 hits, 11 doubles, 50 total bases and a .581 slugging percentage. Bixler led the team in homers with five, tying for the team lead with 17 RBI while slugging .500. She also earned 11 starts in the circle, tossing seven complete games, including one shutout, in 74.2 innings with 30 strikeouts.

Behrenshausen wraps up her career in several top five pitching lists, throwing 16 complete games as a senior in 118.1 innings, striking out 82.

Wilkes finishes its season with a 7-25 overall record, including 5-9 in conference play.
