WILKES CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS SPLIT WITH MISERICORDIA IN SEASON OPENING MEET AT KIRBY PARK

EDWARDSVILLE --- The Wilkes University men's and women's cross country teams opened their 2011 seasons Thursday afternoon hosting Misericordia University at Kirby Park. The Lady Colonels took a 26-30 decision, while the men fell 16-46 in the dual meet.

For the women, Michelle Wakeley (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott) led the way with a top time of 16:32. Becky Gordon (Middlebury, CT/Pomperaug) followed in third place at 18:10, while Sam Wood finished fifth with a time of 18:39. Christine Klingel (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley) came in eighth at 19:41 with Sarah Fillman (Limerick, PA/Spring Ford) (9th/19:55) and Kristin Cook (10th/19:55) rounding out the Wilkes runners.

On the men's side, Tim Jurkowski (Honesdale, PA/Honesdale) was the Colonels top finisher in fifth place with a time of 23:10. Matt Buono followed in eighth at 24:35, while Tim Fisher finished tenth at 25:35. RJ Sperazza crossed the line in eleventh at 26:11, while Mark Ricci (West Chester, Pa./Baynard Rustin) (12th/26:36), Jeff Kinney (Kingston, Pa/Coughlin) (13th/28:32), and Nicholas Wesley (La Grange, IL/Lyons Township) (14th/29:32) rounded out the Wilkes participants.

Both teams will return to action Saturday, September 10^th when they travel to run in the SUNY New Paltz Invitational.
