WILKES CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS COMPETE AT MESSIAH INVITATIONAL; MEN TAKE 7TH OF 12, WOMEN FINISH 7TH OF 13
GRANTHAM, PA – The Wilkes University cross country teams compete at the Messiah College Invitational Saturday afternoon. The Colonel men's squad finished 7th of 13 teams, while the women took 7th place out of 12 teams.
Dan Lykens led the men with a time of 30:30 (27th pace). Tim Jurkowski (Honesdale, PA/Honesdale) followed at 30:51 (37th place), while Austin Loukas (Windham, Maine/Windham) took home 49th place at 31:40. Tyler Layton (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell) (32:20/62nd place) and Matt Buono 32:44/68th place) rounded out the Wilkes runners.
For the women, Michelle Wakeley (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott) led the way with a fifth place finish at 24:51. It marked the fifth best time in school history in the 6k. All Lady Colonel runners reached personal best time as Becky Gordon (Middlebury, CT/Pomperaug) (45th place/28:21), Sam Wood (64th place/29:17), Sarah Fillman (Limerick, PA/Spring Ford) (75th place/30:11), and Christine Klingel (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley) (78th place/30:34) all hit personal bests in the race.
Both squads will return to the course Saturday when they travel to Center Valley, Pa. to run in the Bulldog Invitational at DeSales University.
