Steve Finkernagel Wilkes resumes play Sunday in the MAC Individual Championships WILKES WOMEN’S TENNIS FINISHES DAY ONE OF MAC INDIVIDUAL CHAMPIONSHIPS 10/6/2012 6:19:00 PM WILKES WOMEN'S TENNIS FINISHES DAY ONE OF MAC INDIVIDUAL CHAMPIONSHIPS EDWARDSVILLE, PA – The Wilkes University women's tennis team concluded day one of the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships Saturday afternoon despite some weather delay (rain) at the Ralston Athletic Complex and Kirby Park. In No. 1 singles, Melanie Nolt (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) moved onto semifinal play with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Allison Burkhardt (Elizabethtown) in the opening round and 6-2, 6-0 victory over Jenna Laubach of Eastern in the quarters. Alexis Donner (Belmar, NJ/Wall) moved onto semifinal play receiving two byes in the draw. Donner, playing at No. 2, will face Breanna Phillips of Misericordia on Sunday. At No. 3, top seeded Ally Kristofco (Hollidaysburg, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) grabbed a straight set 6-0, 6-0 win over Sandra Dziadas (Hood) moving onto semifinal play Sunday. She will face Lebanon Valley's Lauren Fulmer who was a 6-3, 6-3 winner in the quarters. At No. 4, Katie Lynn (Berwick, PA/Berwick) was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Viola Sawyer of Arcadia to reach the semis. Lynn will have a matchup with Meghan Muccilli of Lebanon Valley in the semis tomorrow. Amanda Holyk (Scranton, PA/Scranton Prep) and Ana English will play in the quarterfinals tomorrow at No. 5 singles. Holyk received a bye as the top seed while English recorded a 6-0, 6-0 win over Mable Tun (Hood) in the opening round of 16. At No. 6 singles, Amanda Rossi (Fogelsville, PA/Parkland) and Cayleah Markulics (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) moved onto quarterfinal play Sunday with 6-0, 6-0 wins respectively in their opening round matches. In doubles play, Nolt/Lynn took an 8-3 win in their quarterfinal match at No. 1. The duo of Olivia Hewison (Port Crane, NY/Chenango Valley) and Rossi scored an 8-3 win in their opening round match and English /Holyk scored an 8-0 victory at No. 3 doubles as both squads moved onto quarterfinal play Sunday.
