Wilkes snaps a four-game losing streak improving to 3-4 overall on the year. Susquehanna drops to 2-6 on the season. The teams traded baskets early as Chris Shovlin (Kingston, PA/G.A.R.) scored in the paint to cut the Susquehanna lead to 9-8 with 15:45 left in the half. An 8-2 run over six minutes of play extended the Crusaders lead to 11 points at 27-16 with just over seven minutes left in the half. From there, Breznitsky drilled one of his four three-pointers and Shovlin would be fouled behind the arc connecting on all three charity tosses as the Susquehanna lead was trimmed to six, 30-24. Another Shovlin free throw and a deep trey from the junior sharpshooter placed Wilkes down two 30-28 at the break. Wilkes made the comeback complete to start the second frame as Bernard Edmonds (Exeter, PA/Wyoming Area) scored down low followed by a three from Breznitsky and jumper from Jim Brackett (Narvon, PA/Garden Spot) as Wilkes led 37-32 with 18:21 on the second half clock. The Colonels continued to build on their lead midway through the half as two free throws from Breznitsky and an Edmonds three-point play pushed the advantage to ten, 71-61. Susquehanna elected not to foul down the stretch as Wilkes corralled long Crusaders rebounds to seal the non-league victory. Breznitsky was solid throughout the contest finishing 6-for-12 from the field and a season-high 4-for-5 from behind the line. Shovlin followed with 18 points on 6-for-13 shooting while setting up teammates with six helpers. Edmonds continued his fine play after scoring a career-high 23 at CCNY Wednesday posting 16 points and 11 rebounds, his second straight double-double. Spencer Ortmyer led the Susquehanna attack with a game-high 22 points and 10 rebounds. Wilkes returns to action tomorrow facing Central Penn at 1:00 p.m. to conclude play at the Monarch Classic.
