EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University baseball team used a five-run sixth inning to break open a close game as the Colonels posted a 9-3 win over Keuka College Thursday afternoon on a cold and windy day from Artillery Park.
 
The Colonels improve to 8-12 on the season, while the Storm slip to 2-5 overall.
 
In the bottom of the first, Wilkes' Matt Ruch (Dallas, PA/Holy Redeemer) grounded out to the shortstop and scoring Nick Craig (Springfield, PA/The Haverford School) for the Colonels first run of the game. Through four innings Keuka held a slight edge, 2-1. In the fifth inning Wilkes responded with four hits, scoring two runs including an RBI single from Tay Sidler (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville Area)
 
Wilkes then opened the game up in the sixth scoring five runs on three hits. Joe Dantas (Reading, PA/Fleetwood) got things started as he reached on an error by the short-stop. Matt Ruch (Dallas, PA/Holy Redeemer) walked and Dan Pisanchyn (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Stephen Ruch (Dallas, PA/Holy Redeemer) connected on an RBI single followed by a bases-loaded walk by Silder to push the Colonels lead to 5-2. Joel Watson (Honesdale, PA/Honesdale) gave Wilkes its largest lead of the day clearing the bases with a three-run triple to center field.
 
Both Carmen LoPresto and Pisanchyn went 2-for-4 on the afternoon. J. Watson led the Colonels with four RBI's (1-for-2).
 
Cory Dickson (Ashley, PA/Hanover Area), one of five Wilkes pitchers used in the contest, recorded the win going three scoreless innings allowing just three hits to move to 1-1 on the year.
 
The Colonels have a quick turnaround as they travel to Purchase, N.Y. tomorrow for a Freedom matchup with Manhattanville College at 3:30 p.m.
