WILKES BASEBALL OPENS SEASON GOING 0-2 ON DAY TWO IN MYRTLE BREACH
 
MYRTLE BEACH, SC – The Wilkes University baseball team finally began its 2012 campaign Sunday after being rained out on day one of its spring break trip in Myrtle Beach finishing 0-2 on day two. The Colonels fell 5-3 against Roanoke College in their first game of the day, then dropped a 10-7 decision to Penn State Abington in the nightcap.
 
In the game against Roanoke, Carmen Lopresto (Pittston, PA/Pittston Area) led the Wilkes offense with a two-run homer plating two of Wilkes three runs in the contest. Joe Dantas (Reading, PA/Fleetwood) finished 2-for-3 with a double, while Joel Watson (Honesdale, PA/Honesdale) went 2-for-3 on the afternoon.
 
On the mound, Brandon Carling (Old Forge, PA/Old Forge Area) recorded the loss in relief going two innings allowing three runs on three hits. Starter Sean Flecknoe (Wilkes-Barre, PA/G.A.R.) went five strong innings for Wilkes allowing two runs on two hits and five strikeouts.
 
In the defeat against PSU-Abington, Cory Dickson (Ashley, PA/Hanover Area) picked up the loss on the mound going three innings in relief of starter Ryan Fetterman (Endicott, NY/Maine Endwell ). Fetterman went six innings allowing four runs (two earned) while striking out five batters.
 
Matt Ruch (Dallas, PA/Holy Redeemer) led the offense going 3-for-5 with two singles, a double and two runs batted in. Lopresto went 2-for-4 while Dantas finished with two hits. Bobby Schappell (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) added a double and triple in four at-bats.
 
Wilkes will continue its spring break trip Monday with a matchup against Catholic University at 12:00 p.m.
