WILKES WOMEN'S TENNIS OPENS SPRING BREAK TRIP WITH 5-4 COMEBACK WIN OVER JOHN CARROLL

HILTON HEAD, SC – After falling behind 4-2 following doubles play and three singles flights, the Wilkes University women's tennis team rallied to win the last three singles matches to pull out a 5-4 win over John Carroll University Monday afternoon on the first day of its spring break trip in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

Wilkes moves to 3-0 on the season, while John Carroll drops to 2-1 on the year.

Wilkes took two of the three doubles matches with victories at No. 1 and 3. Melanie Nolt (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central)/Katie Lynn (Berwick, PA/Berwick) posted an 8-3 win over Maria Ciccolini/Cassie Simmelink at No.1 doubles, while Anna Mitchell (Montclair, NJ/Montclair)/Ana English recorded an 8-2 win over Hannah Baumwell/Katelyn Hill at No. 3.

John Carroll then took the first three singles matches to finish, No. 1, 2 and 6 to take a 4-2 lead with three matches left. From there, Alexis Donner (Belmar, NJ/Wall) posted a 6-0, 4-0 (retired from injury) win at No. 5 to bring the Lady Colonels to within one, 4-3. Ally Kristofco (Hollidaysburg, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) tied the match at 4-4 with a 7-6, 9-7 (6-2) win at No. 3, and Mitchell clinched the victory with a 7-5, 7-5 win over Erin Davies at No. 4.

Wilkes will return to action Tuesday with a match against Moravian College at 9:00 a.m.
