Wednesday morning on the fifth and final day of its spring break trip in Myrtle Beach. Wilkes falls to 1-5 overall and will return to Wilkes-Barre, Pa. tomorrow making its home debut on Sunday. Trailing 1-0 after one inning of play, the Colonels scored two runs in the third to take a 2-1 lead after three. Tom Plessl (Schnecksville, PA/Parkland) drew a walk to begin the rally and stole second to reach scoring position. Carmen Lopresto (Pittston, PA/Pittston Area) singled to centerfield as Plessl would score on a throwing error by the centerfielder moving Lopresto to third on the play. Matt Ruch (Dallas, PA/Holy Redeemer)'s sacrifice fly plated Lopresto ending the Wilkes scoring. Averett tied the game in the fifth and took back the lead in the six scoring two more times to take a 4-2 lead into the ninth. Wilkes put runners on the corners in its last at-bats as Joel Watson (Honesdale, PA/Honesdale) reached on a throwing error by the catcher and Michael Olerta singled through the right side. Watson later scored on a wild pitch cutting the deficit to 4-3 with two outs. A fielder's choice later in the frame would end the Wilkes comeback attempt. Zach Lazar (Berwick, PA/Berwick Area) recorded the loss on the mound for Wilkes going five and two-thirds allowing nine hits and four runs with two strikeouts. Cory Dickson (Ashley, PA/Hanover Area) entered in relief pitching two and one-third innings not allowing a run giving up one hit with one strikeout.
