WILKES BASEBALL POSTS 16-6 WIN OVER KING'S BEHIND FLECKNOE'S STRONG PITCHING
 
EDWARDSVILLE – Wilkes University senior Sean Flecknoe (Wilkes-Barre, PA/G.A.R.) went seven innings scattering eight hits allowing two earned runs while striking out five as the host Colonels posted a 16-6 win over cross-town rival King's College Friday afternoon at Artillery Park.
 
Wilkes moves to 11-18 overall and 3-10 in Freedom games. King's slips to 9-17 on the year standing 3-10 in league contests.
 
Wilkes took a 1-0 lead after one as Stephen Ruch (Dallas, PA/Holy Redeemer) singled home Carmen Lopresto (Pittston, PA/Pittston Area) in a two-hit frame. The lead grew to 3-0 following the third as Wilkes added two more scores in the inning. S. Ruch and Michael Olerta setup the inning with back-to-back hits. Tay Sidler (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville Area) and Tim Benner (Catawissa, PA/Southern Columbia) provided RBI singles to score Ruch and Olerta.
 
The Colonels continued to pour on the runs in the fourth scoring three more times to extend the lead to 6-0. Lopresto doubled down the left field line and later scored on a Tyler Marino (Wilkes-Barre, PA/Meyers) RBI single up the middle. Joel Watson (Honesdale, PA/Honesdale) connect on another RBI single and Sidler doubled home another run later in the frame.
 
After King's got on the board in the sixth scoring three runs, the Wilkes offense exploded for a six-hit, eight-run bottom half of the inning to open the game up leading 14-3. Watson and Dan Pisanchyn (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) contributed RBI hits and Joe Dantas (Reading, PA/Fleetwood) drove in two on a deep double to center field. Matt Ruch (Dallas, PA/Holy Redeemer) capped off the scoring tear with a two-run homer to left field.
 
The Colonels added two more insurance runs in the seventh using an RBI hit from Lopresto and a sacrifice fly from Marino.
 
Flecknoe enjoyed his finest outing of the season keeping the Monarch bats in check throughout. Mark Siebel (Rumson, NJ/Rumson Fair Haven) and Eric Bidwell (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) pitched in relief appearances with each going one inning.
 
Lopresto, Dantas, and S. Ruch led the Wilkes offense with three hits each as the Colonels went over 20 hits for the second consecutive game. Marino, Olerta, Pisanchyn, Watson, Sidler, and Tim Benner (Catawissa, PA/Southern Columbia) each contributed two hits.
 
The teams will conclude the three-game set with a doubleheader tomorrow at Lippo Field in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
