BIG SECOND HALF LIFTS MISERICORDIA OVER WILKES WOMEN'S LAX, 27-18
 
EDWARDSVILLE – Visiting Misericordia University broke open a tie game at the half by scoring 16 second half goals on way to a 28-17 win over Wilkes University Tuesday afternoon at Schmidt Stadium.
 
Wilkes slips to 6-3 on the year and 0-3 in the conference. Misericordia improves to 5-9 on the season and 1-3 in Freedom action.
 
A back-and-forth scoring duel between the two teams saw a combined 22 first half goals as the game was tied at 11 at the break. Misericordia jumped out to 5-1 lead before the Wilkes offense began its charge. Back-to-back goals by Gabby Ford (Elmont, NY/Sewanhaka) tied the game at 7-7 with 11:17 remaining in the first half.
 
The second half proved to be all Misericordia as the Cougars outscored Wilkes 16-7 in the final frame to secure their first Freedom Conference victory.
 
Misericordia held a 48-33 shot advantage through 60 minutes of action.  The Cougars held a slight 25-21 advantage in draw controls throughout.
 
Ford led the way for Wilkes with ten points on seven goals and three assists. Keri Meerholz (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) and Carley Smith (York, PA/Dallastown) followed with five goals each.
 
Both goalkeepers saw action between the pipes for the Lady Colonels.  Cassie Cronin (Manchester, NH/Manchester Memorial) suffered the loss in 40 minutes of action making eight saves.
 
Gabriella Cerrone posted six goals and one assist for Misericorida.  Krista Shenk tallied a game-high six assists and three goals. Erika Proctor earned the win in the cage finishing with nine saves.
 
Wilkes is back in action Saturday when the Lady Colonels host FDU-Florham in a Freedom Conference matchup at Schmidt Stadium. Game time is set for 12:00 p.m. as four Wilkes seniors will be honored prior to the first draw.
