WILKES WOMEN'S LAX FALLS AT KING'S, 22-14
 
WILKES-BARRE, PA – Wilkes University's Carley Smith (York, PA/Dallastown) and Gabby Ford (Elmont, NY/Sewanhaka) combined for 11 goals and five assists but host King's College used 12 first half goals to post a 22-14 win over the Lady Colonels Tuesday afternoon in Freedom action from McCarthy Stadium.
 
Wilkes slips to 7-5 overall and 0-5 in league play. King's improves to 10-6 overall and move to 4-1 in Freedom contests.
 
After King's jumped out to a 4-0 lead after seven minutes of play, Wilkes answered with three straight goals to cut the deficit to one thanks to goals from Smith, Ford, and Keri Meerholz (Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn).
 
The King's advantage was pushed back to five goals as the Lady Monarchs scored five of the games next seven goals over a 12 minute span to take an 11-6 lead. Lindsey Davenport (Dallas, PA/Dallas) found the back of the net with two second left before the half to send the teams to the break with King's leading 12-7.
 
Wilkes scored the first three goals to start the second half as Ford reached the back of the cage twice and Smith added her third strike of the contest to pull Wilkes within two, 12-10. King's then used 10 goals over the next 20 minutes to stretch the lead back to eight and claim the Freedom victory.
 
Smith led the Wilkes attack with six goals and one assist. Ford netted five goals and passed out four helpers moving her career goal total to 96 goals over two seasons. Meerholz added two goals and one assist.
 
Cassie Cronin (Manchester, NH/Manchester Memorial) suffered the loss in net making a season-high 20 saves.
 
Wilkes will close out its regular season Saturday with a Freedom matchup at Manhattanville College at 1:00 p.m.
