DOYLESTOWN, PA – Host Delaware Valley used an eight-run fourth inning to open up a double digit lead on way to a 13-2 win over Wilkes University Friday afternoon from Frank Wolfgang Field.
 
Wilkes drops to 12-25 overall and 3-16 in Freedom play. DVC improves to 15-19 overall and 7-12 in league games.
 
DVC jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three innings of play scoring one in the second and four in the third. Wilkes responded with a run in the fourth as Tyler Marino (Wilkes-Barre, PA/Meyers) and Tay Sidler (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville Area) opened the frame with base hits. Marino would later score on an RBI single from Bobby Schappell (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) to cut the lead to 5-1.
 
DVC then exploded for eight runs in the bottom half of the frame using nine hits including two, two-run triples.
 
The Colonels scored one more run in the eighth as Sidler started the inning with a double and later crossed the plate on a Schappell hit.
 
Sidler and Schappel led the Wilkes offense each going 3-for-4 with Schappell providing the two Wilkes RBI's. Matt Ruch (Dallas, PA/Holy Redeemer) and Carmen Lopresto (Pittston, PA/Pittston Area) added two hits apiece.
 
Zach Lazar (Berwick, PA/Berwick Area) suffered the loss on the mound going three innings allowing nine runs on ten DVC hits. Mark Siebel (Rumson, NJ/Rumson Fair Haven) entered in relief pitching an inning allowing four hits and three runs. Marc Perry (Dunmore, PA/Dunmore) and Joseph Harvey combined to pitch four innings to close out the contest not allowing a run over three hits.
 
Jim Calabrese went eight strong innings for DVC allowing 13 hits but just two Colonel runs.
 
Wilkes welcomes the Aggies to Artillery Park tomorrow for a doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m. Wilkes' nine senior members will be honored prior to the first pitch on Senior Day.
