Steve Finkernagel Dan Lykens (29:26) finished 36th while Sarah Fillman (28:35) finished 48th in the Cougar Classic Saturday morning CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS COMPETE AT COUGAR CLASSIC; MEN FINISH 7TH, WOMEN 8TH 9/15/2012 7:27:00 PM CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS COMPETE AT COUGAR CLASSIC; MEN FINISH 7TH, WOMEN 8TH DALLAS, PA – The Wilkes University cross country teams competed at the 2012 Cougar Classic Saturday morning. The men's squad finished seventh out of 14 teams, while the women's unit finished eighth out of 13 teams. The Colonels finished with 180 points with an average time of 29:26.28. Brian Smith (Laporte, PA/Sullivan County) led the Colonels in 33rd place with a time of 29:12. James Chmiola (Wilkes-Barre, PA/Coughlin) followed in 35th place with a time of 29:26. Dan Lykens (29:26), Tim Jurkowski (Honesdale, PA/Honesdale) (29:29), and Jordan Simmons (29:35) finished in 36th, 37th, and 39th place respectively. Matthew Buono (Goshen, N.Y./Goshen) (30:25) and Forest Hawkins (Ashley, PA/Hanover) (31:02) rounded out the place finishers coming in 51st and 59th. A total of 174 runners competed in the 8k race. The Lady Colonels finished with 258 points and an average time of 28:54. Sarah Fillman (Limerick, PA/Spring Ford) (28:35) and Kayla Myers (East Greenville, PA/Upper Perkipmon) (28:41) led the women's squad in 48th and 50th place respectively. Rebecca Gordon (28:48) finished in 51st while Melanie Faherty (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) (29:08) and Rachel Constant (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame ) (29:16) finished in 54th and 55th respectively. Christine Klingel (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley) (29:29) and Devanie Craft (Meadville, PA/Milton-Hershey) (30:50) rounded out the point scorers placing in 58th and 67th. A total of 137 runners competed in the 6k race. Both teams will be back in action on September 22 as they compete in the NEPA Classic at King's College in Wilkes-Barre. Print Friendly Version
