WILKES MEN'S SOCCER BLANKED BY ALVERNIA, 5-0

READING, PA – Host Alvernia University scored three goals in the first 45 minutes of play then added two more strikes in the second half on way to a 5-0 win over Wilkes University Saturday night in non-conference men's soccer action.

Wilkes slips to 1-1 overall on the season following the defeat.

Alex Martyn scored twice for the Crusaders as Alvernia controlled most of the contest establishing a balance offensive attack throughout. Alvernia's first two goals came on penalty kicks as Kyle Martyn and Zach Wilson gave the Crusaders a 2-0 lead with 24:35 on the clock.

Wilkes managed seven shots in the match with two corner kick attempts. Dave Marr (Muncy, PA/Warrior Run) started in net playing 45 minutes allowing three goals stopping one shot to suffer the loss. Patrick Loube (Boyertown, PA/Boyertown) and Kyle Romm (Hampstead, MD/North Carroll) each saw time in the second half for the Colonels combining for six saves.

The Colonels return to play tomorrow facing Albright College at 1:00 p.m. in the round robin format tournament.
