WILKES MEN'S TENNIS WINS SIX SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIPS, SWEEPS ALL FOUR DOUBLES TITLES AT MAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University men's tennis team captured six of seven singles championships, then swept all four double flights on way to ten total titles at the Middle Atlantic Conference Individual Championships Sunday afternoon at the Ralston Athletic Complex and Kirby Park courts.

It marks the second straight year the Wilkes men have swept the doubles portion of the tournament. Wilkes added two more singles champions this year after winning four crowns last season at the same event.

At No. 1, Steven Wilson (Bronx, NY/JFK) claimed his first title after falling in the finals a year ago. Wilson posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over King's George Parkhurst in the championship round.

Michael Kranz (Depew, NY/Lancaster Central) notched his second consecutive title, this time at No. 2 after winning the crown at No. 3 in 2012. Kranz was a 6-4, 6-3 winner over Alvernia's Dan Minnich in the finals.

At No. 4, Connor Peckham (Warminster, PA/Central Bucks East) sealed his first championship as a Colonel beating top-seeded Jacob Rohring of King's in the finals. Peckham reached the finals with a 6-4, 6-4 win over teammate Brian Murray (Brooklyn, NY/Leon M. Goldstein) in the semifinals.

At No. 5, Brendon Blachowski (Newtown, PA /Council Rock North) cruised through the bracket to earn his first championship at the event. He recorded a 6-2, 6-2 decision over King's Chris DiMino in the final.

Rookie Adam Lefkandinos (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) was the Colonels winner at No. 6 beating teammate Colin Strunk in the finals 6-2, 6-0.

Daniel Hackford (Binghamton, NY/Seton Catholic) claimed the No. 7 singles crown with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Sean Boyd of Alvernia.

In the final singles flight of the day at No. 3, Jacob Parfianowicz (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy) fell in the finals to top-seeded Tony
Bevevino of King's 6-2, 6-4.

The brother duo of Dominic and Jacob Parfianowicz (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy) proved their top seed entering the event cruising to the title at No. 1 doubles. The pair defeated Stephen Brand and George Parkhurst of King's in the finals.

The defending No. 1 doubles duo, Alex Makos (Mansfield, PA/Mansfield) and Steven Wilson (Bronx, NY/JFK), won their second consecutive title as a pair posting an 8-6 win over teammates Max Appello (Sparta, NJ/Sparta) and Lefkandinos.

No. 3 doubles also guaranteed a Wilkes champion as Blachowski/Kranz faced off against Hackford/Peckham. Blachowski/Kranz outlasted the other Colonel duo 8-6 in the final to claim the title.

Troy Haas (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman) and Murray completed the doubles sweep for Wilkes when they defeated teammates
Dennis Gliem (Media, PA/Penncrest) and Strunk 8-3 at No. 4.

Wilkes remains idle until its spring season in mid-February when the Colonels travel to Madison, NJ for the Ranger Invitational at Drew University on February 15 and 16.
