Steve Finkernagel Wilkes finished its final tune up before the MAC Championships on November 2 WILKES CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS EXCEL AT GETTYSBURG INVITATIONAL; MEN TAKE 18TH, WOMEN 19TH 10/19/2013 3:47:00 PM Men's Results / Women's Results WILKES CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS EXCEL AT GETTYSBURG INVITATIONAL; MEN TAKE 18TH, WOMEN 19TH GETTYSBURG, PA – The Wilkes University men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Gettysburg Invitational Saturday afternoon as the Colonel men claimed 18th place of 26 teams while the Lady Colonels notched 19th place of 27 squads. The Wilkes men finished with 529 total points in the 8k race (281 participants) while the Lady Colonels finished with 516 team points in the 6k event (276 participants). For the Colonels, Tim Jurkowski (Honesdale, PA/Honesdale) excelled in the race breaking the school record for fastest time in the 8k finishing in 28:37. Jurkowski tops the previous school mark set by Brian Smith (Laporte, PA/Sullivan County) last season by :22 seconds as well as setting his personal best in the process. Tyler Sutton (Wyalusing, PA/Wyalusing Valley) followed with a time of 29:11 for 137th place, while Daniel Lykens (Reading, PA/Governor Mifflin) finished at 29:16 for 141st place. Forest Hawkins (Ashley, PA/Hanover) came in at 29:55 (166th place) followed by Martin Tolbert (York, PA/William Penn) at 30:36 for 195th place. Dickinson College claimed the men's team title finishing with 86 points. Lock Haven followed in second place while Shippensburg University notched third. For the Lady Colonels, Vianna Crowley led the way with a time of 25:43 for 88th place. Rachel Quinn (Goshen, NY/Goshen) finished at 25:59 for 105th place and Sarah Fillman (Limerick, PA/Spring Ford) notched a time of 26:33 for 132nd place. Christine Klingel (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley) (27:55/181st) and Tracey Hilker (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) (27:58/183rd) rounded out the Wilkes scorers. Dickinson completed the men's/women's sweep claiming the women's title with 32 points. Shippensburg followed in second while Lebanon Valley notched third place in the race. Wilkes remains idle until November 2 when both teams compete at the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships at DeSales University in Center Valley, Pa.
