WILKES FIELD HOCKEY FALLS IN OVERTIME AT FDU-FLORHAM, 3-2
MADISON, NJ – Holding a 2-1 lead late in the second half, the Wilkes University field hockey team was unable to hold on to the advantage as host FDU-Florham tied the contest and sealed the Freedom Conference victory with a goal seven minutes into overtime to post a 3-2 win Friday night.
Wilkes slips to 2-8 overall and 0-2 in league play following the loss. FDU-Florham improves to 5-5 on the year, 2-0 in conference games after the victory.
Wilkes' Ashley Hahn (Bangor, PA/Bangor) opened the scoring with an unassisted goal at the 22:40 mark of the first half. FDU-Florham answered tying the game at 1-1 when Gabby D'Amico scored off an assist from Lanie Andrews.
The Lady Colonels grabbed the lead back early in the second frame as Aliya Frankel (Ventnor, NJ/Holy Spirit) found the back of the cage at 39:43. The Wilkes lead held until the 68:20 mark when Niki Ikeda sent the game to overtime with a goal off a Stephanie Geskes helper.
In overtime, Kim Davis notched the game-winner seven minutes into the stanza as FDU-Florham escaped with the conference win.
Alexis Reed (Greenport, NY/Greenport) made two saves in net for Wilkes playing the entire contest. Tess Loughran recorded the win for FDU-Florham making eight saves.
Wilkes returns to play Sunday when the Lady Colonels travel to Shippensburg University to face Lynchburg College at 2:00 p.m. in a neutral site contest.
