WILKES WOMEN'S TENNIS FINISHES DAY ONE OF MAC INDIVIDUAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

EDWARDSVILLE – Eight singles players and three doubles teams advanced to the semifinals Sunday as the Wilkes women's tennis team completed day one of the Middle Atlantic Conference Individual Championships Saturday at the Ralston Athletic Complex and Kirby Park.

At No. 1 singles, second seeded Ally Kristofco (Hollidaysburg, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) advanced with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Eastern's Jenna Laubach. Kristofco will face third seeded Misericordia's Michelle Cameron tomorrow in the semifinals.

At No 2, Ashli Livermore (Altoona, PA/Altoona), seeded second, advanced with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Megan Klosterman of Eastern to reach the semifinals. Livermore will play Cassie Foy of Misericordia in the semis tomorrow.

Kendra Croker (Old Forge, PA/Scranton Prep) moved onto the semifinals at No. 3 with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Jen Balbi of Eastern in the first round before posting a 6-0, 6-1 win against Svetlana Widell of Stevenson in the quarters. Croker matches up with Breanne Phillips in the semifinals tomorrow.

No. 4 singles saw second seed Gabrielle Dubruille (Ocean View, NJ/Ocean City) move onto the semifinals with a 6-0, 6-0 win in the first round followed by a 4-6, 6-1, 10-4 victory over Hanna Lazio of Messiah in the quarterfinals. She faces fourth seeded Lori Noble of Lebanon Valley in the semifinals.

Two Lady Colonels moved into semifinal play at No. 5 singles as both Ana English and Madison Salmon (Endicott, NY/Union Endicott) both advanced with wins on day one. English was a 6-0, 6-0 winner in the first round followed by a 6-3, 6-0 winning decision over Bailey Hagen of Stevenson in the quarterfinals. Salmon advanced with two straight set wins, one over Alvernia (6-0, 6-1) and the other against Albright (6-0, 6-0). English and Salmon are on opposite ends of the semifinals and will only meet in the finals if both advanced tomorrow.

No. 6 singles also saw two Wilkes players advance as Amanda Rossi (Fogelsville, PA/Parkland) and Alanna Denauski (Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville) moved through to the semifinals. Rossi scored a 6-1, 4-6, 10-8 win in the quarterfinals after receiving a bye as the top seed in the bracket. Denauski advanced with a 6-0, 6-0 win in the first round over Lycoming's Miranda Giraldo and a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Erin Sullivan of Albright in the quarterfinals. As with English and Salmon at No. 5, Rossi and Denauski will only meet in the finals tomorrow if both were to win.

In doubles competition, Kristofco/Livermore advanced to the semifinals of No.1 with an 8-2 win in the quarterfinals. They received a bye in the first round after being seeded second in the bracket. Two Wilkes pairs are on to the semifinals at No. 2 doubles as Croker/Dubruille and Denauski/Olivia Hewison (Port Crane, NY/Chenango Valley) moved through with wins in the quarterfinals after byes.

Taylor Hoffman and English advanced to the semifinals of No. 4 pairs using an 8-0 blanking of a Lycoming duo to reach the third round of the tournament.

The tournament will conclude Sunday with semifinals and finals of all flights (both singles and doubles). Play begins at 9:00 a.m.
