Steve Finkernagel Ana English was one of four singles winners and three doubles champions for Wilkes at the MAC Individual Championships Sunday WILKES WOMEN’S TENNIS CAPTURES FOUR SINGLES TITLES, THREE DOUBLES CROWNS AT MAC INDIVIDUAL CHAMPIONSHIPS 10/6/2013 6:22:00 PM (Final Results) WILKES WOMEN'S TENNIS CAPTURES FOUR SINGLES TITLES, THREE DOUBLES CROWNS AT MAC INDIVIDUAL CHAMPIONSHIPS EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University women's tennis team captured four singles titles and three doubles championships at the Middle Atlantic Conference Individual Championships Sunday afternoon at the Ralston Athletic Complex and Kirby Park courts. Wilkes saw two new champions at No.2 and No. 3 singles as a pair of freshmen claimed the top spot. Ashli Livermore (Altoona, PA/Altoona) recorded a straight set 6-1, 6-0 win over Brooke Rooney of Albright to claim the No. 2 crown in her first action in the tournament. Kendra Croker (Old Forge, PA/Scranton Prep) was the other first-time winner for Wilkes posting a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Elizabethtown's Kaitlyn Pellegrino in the final at No. 3. At No. 5, Wilkes was guaranteed a winner as Anastasia English (Columbia, MD/Wilde Lake) and Madison Salmon (Endicott, NY/Union Endicott) met in the finals. English would prevail in the match recording a 6-3, 6-3 straight set win over her teammate grabbing her first title as a Lady Colonel in the event. Amanda Rossi (Fogelsville, PA/Parkland) notched her second straight title at No. 6 singles beating teammate Alannah Denauski 6-4, 6-3 in the final to defend her crown. Denauski, who was making her first appearance in the tournament as a freshman, entered the finals after a 6-1, 6-0 win over Stevenson's Ashley Pinter in the semifinals. In doubles competition, Ally Kristofco (Hollidaysburg, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) and Livermore cruised into the finals only to meet the top seed of Victoria Foanio and Ashley Sell of Albright. Wilkes prevailed in the final scoring an 8-6 win to capture the No. 1 pairs crown. At No. 2 doubles, the Wilkes team of Croker/Gabrielle Dubruille (Ocean View, NJ/Ocean City) won the title with an 8-2 victory over teammates Olivia Hewison (Port Crane, NY/Chenango Valley)/Denauski. Wilkes' final championship in the event came at No. 3 doubles when Taylor Hoffman and English posted an 8-6 win over Lebanon Valley in the final. Since 2006, head coach Chris Leicht has helped leads the squad to 32 singles titles and 16 doubles championships, the most of any school in the MAC over the five-year span. The event concludes the fall campaign for the Lady Colonels. Wilkes opens the spring schedule in early March when it travels to Hilton Head, South Carolina for its annual spring break trip.
