Colonels open up the 2013-2014 season with a 12 point victory over PSU Allegheny

MEN'S BASKETBALL DEFEATS PSU ALLEGHENY ADVANCING TO TOMORROW'S CHAMPIONSHIP GAME VS. WASHINGTON & JEFFERSON
 
WASHINGTON, PA --  The Colonels started off the 2013-2014 season in good fashion, defeating PSU Allegheny 87-75 on Saturday evening in the first round of the Farmers Insurance Washington & Jefferson Tip-Off tournament.
 
Wilkes cruised from the get go as they built a comfortable 17 point halftime lead 45-28.  The Colonels shot 51% from the field in the half and drilled five three point attempts as they held PSU Allegheny to just 32% shooting to start the game. 
 
Wilkes got great production from their bench to go along with their starters.  In all 11 players totaled points for the Colonels as the bench outscored PSU Allegheny 44-14.  Pat Furst (Jamison, PA/Central Bucks West) led the Colonels with 25 points and nine rebounds.  Alec Wizar (Lebanon, PA/Annville Cleona) came off the bench and drilled five three's for a total of 19 points and Nic Wilkins (Dushore, PA/Sullivan County) nearly had a double-double scoring 10 points and nine boards off the bench.  The Colonels made 10 shots from beyond the arc and outrebounded PSU Allegheny 48-32.
 
The Colonels return to action Sunday when they take on host Washington & Jefferson College at 3:00 p.m. in the championship game of the Farmers Insurance Washington & Jefferson Tip-Off Tournament.  Washington & Jefferson defeated Franciscan 75-72 in their first round matchup.
